Nightmares at work are real but you don’t have to worry about them. We’ve all woken up relieved that the nightmare about the test that you were prepared for, well it was just a dream.

But sometimes we get into nightmare situations on the job, where we don’t feel prepared. Someone suddenly says, “Could you present on this information?” and you weren’t expecting it.

Or maybe a supervisor or someone really important turns to you and says, “What do you think?” You hadn’t really prepared any thoughts. You get nervous. You start to panic.

Nightmares are real but you don’t have to be afraid of them. Usually when you have those nightmares about those tests, it’s a way of your mind kind of worrying about if you’re prepared.

If you’re good at your job and you know your job, even if it’s unexpected thing, you should be fine. The knowledge you need is in here. You just have to relax, take a deep breath, and give your answer.

Sometimes we may feel that the person who’s made this request of us, is out to get us. Often, there’s no malice there at all. It’s simply that you’re the go to person for this information and the request is about you as a resource, not a testing situation.

Finally, if you just feel so frazzled and just not prepared, it is permissible to say, “You know what? I’m not totally sure about that. Let me check on it and I’ll get back to everyone as soon as possible.”

Very often no one is going to have have any problem with that response because you want to give the best information you can, rather than saying something that you’ll regret.
